From the Soul of the Founder
Salim Ali, Mtoko’s Founder and Creative Director, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and has spent over a decade immersed in Tanzania’s fashion and cultural space. His designs have been showcased at Swahili Fashion Week in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
His unique blend of social insight and design vision powers Mtoko’s heartbeat: A belief that design is not just what we wear — it’s how we connect.
“I’m a firm believer in the Kiswahili proverb, ‘Maisha ni safari’ — life is a journey. This is my daily mantra, and it gives me new eyes to the world. I truly believe that everything we go through is shaping us into something beautifully whole.”
